My Soldier

Salute to my soldier.
You fought hard for me.
And you do it over and over.

You never fold.
You take bullets to keep me safe.
Never be a slave to what you owed.

You do swear to protect and serve me.
And that’s flattering.
But I want you to know you’re worth more than they see.

I never want your heart to turn cold.
You’re my defender for forever.
I need us to be happy and grow old.

I’m begging you, my soldier.
Put down the gun for a while.
Give me your shoulder.
